I finished a book this week: "To Own a Dragon: Reflections on Growing up Without a Father", by Donald Miller *If I had more time to figure out how, I would embed a link in the name --sorry you'll have to look for it yourself* Anyway, this book was great on many levels. One, my dad was absent from my life and I could connect with Don's story. Two, there is a underlying story of photography (something that I love) and thirdly, I realized that there are people out there trying to connect with God through... drumroll... people. I could go on and on about the book, but it touched me and I read it in one evening.
I won't go giving away tons from the book, but I will post one of the biggest statements that made me cry and sit in silence for a while. I read the section to my husband and he said "I don't know why you are crying", so I am guessing it touched me on a very personal level. The quote actually comes from something Dwight Eisenhower commented on and it has left an impression on my heart:
"...The world could be fixed of its problems if every child understood the necessity of their existence".
I won't drone on and on about all the ways this affected me, but I will say that it opened a hole and filled a hole in my heart all at the same time.
